Pulling Off Patterns

"There's NO way I could pull off that pant."

You know the thought?

You find that one item in the store that instantly captures your eye. You pick it up, and take a deep *sigh*...

"I wish I could pull this off."

While shopping, the issue is that we lack the motivation and effort to "pull off" the item. Most of the time, we don't know HOW to wear it, when all it takes is a little creativity.

The Parrot Pant

When it comes to wearing bold patterns, like the "parrot pants" as I call them, the pattern should be the main focus of the outfit to properly "pull off" the pant.

If the pant (or top, shoe, sweater, etc.) is a loud print, let it be what catches someone's eye.

For the first look, I did not want the top, shoes or accessories to distract from the focus of this look: the pant.

Head-To-Toe Patterns

Now, venturing into head-to-toe patterns can be intimidating.

"HOW?" is the question that we often think to ourselves.

"There's no way I can have a printed top with a printed bottom!"

It's scary to attempt a head-to-toe printed look, especially the first time you do it.

I encourage you to start slowly, or you may want to start trying on items in your closet and surprise yourself at what comes together.

Don't focus on if the outfit "matches," but rather if the patterns complement each other.

The second look is daring and bold. However, I initially questioned, "Does this work or am I crazy?"

I wanted to mix the textured pant with a fun printed top, while keeping the shoe a neutral. Because, YES, leopard print is a neutral.

The Challenge

So, I challenge you to a game of dress up. Yes, we are 5 years old once again, exploring the closet to see what patterns makes us feel confident.

And remember this: when you want to wear an outfit but are doubting in your mind if you can actually "pull it off," just GO for it.

Your style is what makes YOU unique.

First look: H&M top, Zara pants, Zara shoes, stolen bangles from my mother's jewelry box, sunglasses from Jondie in Franklin, Tenn.

Second look: Do&Be top, Cynthia Rowley pants, Target shoes
