Guest Blogger: Fall Lipstick Trends

Hello, all you beautiful readers! I am so excited to be guest writing for my friends at Charisma. When I was contacted to write about my favorite lipstick for fall/winter, I immediately went into panic mode. Just one?! Yeah right. I narrowed it down…and then narrowed it down again…and finally came up with my two favorites. These will cover a wide range of preferences and can be tailored to your skin tone, hair color, outfit-of-the-day and, most importantly, your budget.

1)The “Kylie Jenner” Lip

It seems like everyone and their mother has been blowing up our Instagram feeds with their version of the perfect KJ lip. Of course, I immediately went on the hunt for a lipstick that would make me look like her. While I haven't found a cosmetic product that has worked that kind of magic yet, I have found two lip liners that definitely take my lips in that general direction.

The first lip liner is in the shade “Tawny” by Jordanna (available at Walgreens, approximately $3) and the second liner is in the shade “Nude Pink” by NYX (available at ULTA and select Target locations, also approximately $3 - $4).

These are two amazing shade choices that will flatter nearly every skin tone, including my lily-white complexion, reminiscent of snow in sunlight. At that price point, why wouldn’t you get both to play around with the different nude-y tones? Plus, these are great alone, as they both have a soft matte finish, or paired with a gloss to amp your lips up a bit.

2) Purple

I know, I know. Purple lip color sounds elementary at first, right? Wrong. I love a good bold lip, and any shade of purple is so on-trend this season. I wasn’t sure that it would flatter a lot of people. I was convinced that it would be one of those looks that only supermodels on the Tom Ford or Louis Vuitton runway could pull off…because, as we all know, they’re immortal robots paid for by the Government of Fashion to make us all feel bad about ourselves. However, I am loving it this season, and you should too!

The first image color is in the shade “Utopia” by Lime Crime ($20). This is the newest shade in their Velvetine range, and it is absolutely gorgeous. It may come off as a fuscia/ hot pink in the photo, but on the lips, it’s a bright, light purple that is beautiful on every single skin tone in existence. No lie, y’all. Goes on liquid, dries to a show-stopping matte, and lasts until you take it off.

The next option is in the shade “Hoochie” by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics ($18, Sephora). A true purple, this Lip Tar goes on like a gloss, but sets matte and is extremely comfortable to wear. I have only worn this a few times, but I have gotten more compliments on this shade than any other lipstick I own. It’s ironically classic & chic, yet so very trendy.

The final look is the shade “Vision In Violet” in The Elixir range by Maybelline ($6.50 - $7, anywhere Maybelline is sold). When I think of the color purple, I think of this. Though it does have a glossy finish, it’s a lasting color with little to no stickiness (which is a pet peeve of mine in a gloss) and glides on smoothly. If you’re pinching your pennies, this is an amazing quality gloss for a fraction of the cost!
