Every girl wants to look beautiful on the happiest day of her life: her wedding day. As we all know, weddings are expensive. When a bride begins her wedding planning, her price tag can seem overwhelming. That being said, brides think that in order to look beautiful on their big day, they need to pay for a professional hair stylist and makeup artist. Not true.
Wedding day hairstyles don't need to be as complicated as brides try to make them. Ask yourself this question: Do you want to look back on your wedding photos in a couple of decades and notice your hair and makeup are outdated? Stick to a timeless look. Whether it’s keeping your hair down with subtle waves, half up, or a simple side pony. The best part is that none of these hairstyles need a professional. Since they’re so simple, you can have one of your bridesmaids do it!
Similar to hair, your eye makeup needs to be timeless and simple as well. You should still look like yourself on your wedding day. Just because it’s the biggest day of your life, doesn’t mean you need to wear the most makeup you’ve ever worn. It may seem intimidating, but I promise you can do your own wedding day makeup. That being said, I’ve devised simple steps to help you look your bridal best:

Step One: Eyes
Brush a taupe eye shadow on top of your lids.

Brush a rich purple eye shadow to the middle and outer lids and outer crease. *If you have blue eyes, substitute the dark purple to a medium brown.*

Using waterproof liquid eyeliner, start with the middle of your lids and drag across to the outer corner of your eyes. After doing so, drag the liquid liner from the inner corner of your eyes until it connects with the middle.

Taking a smaller brush, dab black eye shadow and fill in the outer lids and part of your outer crease. Blending is key!

After you’ve done so, go back with the purple eye shadow (brown shadow for blue eyes) and blend onto your above crease and slightly with the black shadow.
I always dab my pinky (makeup artists will shun me, sorry!) into a shimmery white shadow and add to the middle lids, corners of my eyes, and on my brow bone for a fresh look. Bonus: it looks great in photos.

For bottom liner, use a small brush and dark brown shadow. Many brides make the mistake of going overboard with bottom eyeliner. Steer clear of this by using a dark brown versus black.

Add two coats of mascara. (click here for luscious lashes)
Step Two: Face
Save foundation and bronzer until after you’re finished with your eyes. Powder from eye shadows often falls underneath your eyes. It’s an easy clean up if you haven’t done your face makeup yet.
Add foundation under your eyes and let it sit for a minute. Blend it in and then add foundation to the rest of your face.

Contouring: you must learn to contour your face for your wedding day! By doing this, you highlight all of your best features.I use a foundation brush to contour. Using your bronzer, brush under your check bones and outsides of your nose from your eyebrow to your nostrils. Blend it all in.

Use another bronzer one-to-two shades lighter and bronze the rest of your face.
If you are fair skinned, you can skip this step!
Add a touch of blush to the apples of your cheeks.

Step Three: Eyebrows
Eyebrows are most important because they frame the face. Make sure to use a pencil that is the same color as your natural eyebrow. Fill in your brows to create a sharp, cleaner look.

Step Four: Lips
Trace your lips using lip liner similar to the color of your lips (does this liner look familiar to you?). Don’t use the “oh, but it’s not the ‘90s anymore,” excuse. Forget that. Lip liner does wonders.

After you’ve lined your lips, add a touch of foundation to the center of your lips. This gives an illusion of fuller lips (especially in photos).

When the foundation dries, fill in the rest of your lips with the same liner.
If preferred, add gloss.

Your bridal beauty is now complete! If you’re still nervous, do a couple of trial runs before your big day. This way, you’re confident you’ve got the hang of it. Practice makes perfect. Share your newly taught beauty secrets with your bridesmaids as well.
