Coming into the winter season, the must-have item at the top of my shopping list (for myself, naturally) was a puffy vest. To be honest, I've shied away from puffy vests because I'm scarred with pictures from high school of myself wearing one when I had an afro and no sense of style. But now that vests are all the rage and I've outgrown braces and teenage acne, I knew it was time to revisit this trend and see how I could pull off the beloved winter vest.

I found this particular vest on Black Friday at Gap for an incredible bargain. As soon as I laid eyes on it, I was in love. The down vest is delightfully warm, and the faux fur doesn't appear cheap. The item is a statement piece, so I knew I could easily pair it with most items in my closet. Puffy and down vests, like this one, pair great with sweaters and jeans, which is exactly how I chose to wear it in the images below. Plus it's warm enough that, if combined with a sweater, I don't even need a coat! So before you immediately shun the idea of investing in a nice vest this winter, consider all of the benefits to owning one.
