Hey boys:
We know how stressed the majority of you get on Valentine's Day. Commercals, advertisements, and even past relationships have probably scarred you. Don't stress! There are some lies out there that have the male species feeling major pressure during the holiday of hearts.
Valentine’s Day lies you NEED to know…
1.) When your girlfriend says, “You don’t have to get me a gift.”
She’s lying. It’s that plain and simple. She may be trying to come off as one of those girls who are “different” from all of the rest. You think you’ve found the one who doesn’t care about the Hallmark holiday. Nope, you haven’t. She doesn’t exist. She cares and doesn’t want to be giftless from her boyfriend on the most “romantic” day of the year. Harsh? NO. Honest. I’m saving you from a lot of this:
You: Are you mad?
Girlfriend: No, I’m fine.
You: Okay, good I was worrie—
Girlfriend: It’s just, I’m a little disappointed that…
*This conversation will continue and go in a circle for the next hour. SAVE YOURSELF.
2.) You have to GO BIG or GO HOME.
This ties in with getting your girlfriend a gift. Yes, you should get her something. No, it doesn’t have to be extravagant. Whether it’s flowers and a dainty necklace, jewelry box, pajama set, or a concert ticket, she should be happy. If she’s disappointed because she was expecting an iPad, designer shoes, or a Tiffany’s bracelet that you can't afford, she sounds selfish. Yes, you should get her a gift, but you shouldn’t feel pressured to give more than you can. Valentine’s Day is always a nice test to see what kind of girl you’re dating. Plus, the best part about Valentine’s Day is celebrating each other, not what you get her.
3.) You HAVE TO go to a restaurant.
Restaurants are absolutely packed on Valentine’s Day. If you want to dodge the crowd and have more of a personal, romantic dinner, then surprise your girlfriend with a candlelit dinner! Whether that’s you cooking or getting takeout from a steakhouse, she will surely appreciate all the effort you put into making the perfect night happen. Have her dress up, meet you at your house, and voila! She will love walking into a beautifully decorated table with candles, flowers, and her favorite meal. Creating a romantic ambiance is key for this to work!
4.) Chocolates and a stuffed animal are a must.
No. They aren’t. I mean, sure every girl loves chocolate, but it’s not a must. As far as purchasing a stuffed animal holding a velvet “I love you” heart, you really don’t have to unless she specifically said she wanted one. I had a hard enough time saying goodbye to my stuffed animals that I don’t need another one at 23 years old.
5.) You don’t need to write her a nice note/card.
You should! Ladies are very sentimental. Personally, there is nothing better than a nice note or letter from a loved one. I will read it over and over again and save it forever. Sometimes it’s difficult for guys to say exactly how they feel, but when you can write out how special she is to you, it makes it easier. She’ll love it, I promise.
Okay, fellas, let me know how these work for you.
What are your favorite Valentine’s Day traditions?
