This past weekend, my roommates and I ventured to Riverview, an area of Chattanooga we haven’t explored. If you knew our love for Tremont Tavern burgers, you would be as shocked as we were for never taking the time to realize all that Riverview offers. Although, years ago, I ate at the quaintest café in Riverview, called Vine Street Market. I’ve been meaning to take my friends there for years. Why I waited until this past Saturday is beyond me. They loved it!

Vine Street Market is known to be the “heart” of Riverview (which it totally is). On the outside, it looks inviting and like a homey cottage delicately placed on the corner. The outside seating is perfect for spring and summer days. When you enter VSM, the warm, honey lighting and delicious, colorful pastries greet you. As you stand in line to order, you can’t help but salivate at the display of cupcakes and lemon squares right in front of your eyes. VSM looks exactly like our favorite 90’s rom-com. I wouldn’t be surprised if Julia Roberts and Richard Gere are sitting across from me next time I go.

My order:
To drink:
VSM Famous Mint Tea
Order this next time you go. It sets off fireworks in my soul every time I get to sip on this treat. It’s a cold, mint iced tea with a dash of honey. If you’re one who loves sweet tea, you need to try this refreshing alternative.

To eat:
Cranny Granny Sandwich & Pasta Salad
This sandwich was packed with Thanksgiving glory (which I’m a sucker for). What nailed it was the cranberry based sauce and slices of Granny Smith apples. It was warm and comforting. But hey, mine didn’t come with a pickle! A pickle should come with every sandwich order (thankfully, my roomie let me have hers). Although I have to admit, the pasta salad was my favorite part. It was full of flavor and paired really well with the sandwich (strangely enough). It’s one of those dishes that you daydream about a few days later.

To indulge:
Apricot Square Dessert
Whoa, if you want a rich treat to top off your lazy Saturday lunch, get yourself an apricot square. I originally picked this dessert because I don’t see too many apricot desserts. It was a winner. The icing on top was my favorite part along with the mix of crumbles and apricot.

Overall, my experience at Vine Street Market was a “thumbs up.” My main con was the actual meal didn’t seem like enough food for the cost. For just the tea and sandwich, my meal came out to $13. A couple of my friends who accompanied me mentioned they were still hungry. At least the dessert helped satisfy that, right?
I can’t wait for my next weekend lunch at VSM! Maybe Julia Roberts really will accompany me next time. What are your favorite lunch spots in Chattanooga? We’d love to know!
