As young, vibrant women, it is easy for us to think that we have the rest of our lives to take care of our skin. I've been guilty of purchasing the cheapest moisturizer from Walgreens in order to save money, only to find my skin feeling just as dry as it felt prior to the lotion. Another common thought I've had (and maybe you can relate) is that I don't need to start using an eye cream until I'm at least 40. (Because 40 seems like a good age to start preparing for adult life in my mind.)

I say all of this to stress the importance of quality skincare products. These are the years that we need to re-evaluate the products that our skin is absorbing. I.e. "Hmm, is this drug-store-brand face wash REALLY beneficial to my skin?" Doubt it.

Here are a few of my skincare products that have proven to be my favorites and are within my budget! The ultimate goal is for you to re-evaluate and consider investing for your future skin that may be on the crow's feet path to destruction.

After enduring some rough teenage acne years that involved trying every skincare line and medicine (including Accutane), I deeply hold compliments that I receive about my complexion close to my heart. Yes, I still receive the occasional zit, however; I've come a long way and, sorry, I will not be sharing those horrible pictures. Last year, I started using Image Skincare thanks to my esthetician. I love it and, honestly, don't see myself ever trying another line. (Thanks, Stacey!) There are products for literally every skin type or issue. Here's what I use and how I use it:

  • Balancing Facial Cleanser: I use this every morning and evening. When I remove my makeup with it at night, I use a washcloth to make sure I'm getting all of the makeup out of my pores. Swishing water around in circles on your face does not actually remove the makeup properly - I recommend a cloth.

  • Hydrating Anti-Aging Serum: This is the moisturizer that I apply at night after cleansing my face. It's a delicate serum, preparing my skin for its bright future.

2. Eye spy a problem

  • First of all, please oh please take off your makeup every night! There is a nationally-know aesthetician named Lisa Vela who stresses the importance of using a makeup remover specifically targeted for your eyes. I've been using her routine for years. Another thing to note for our delicate eyes, is to be very gentle because the skin on your eye area is 6-10 times thinner than other parts of your face. Aka don't scrub your eyes every night because it can have a negative impact.

  • Secondly, as I mentioned earlier in the blog, it's easy for us to think that we don't need an eye cream until we are much older women. However, this is so false. It's important to hydrate our eyes now so that we prevent wrinkles and crow's feet in the future. Find an eye cream that you love. (Sephora will give you free samples of different kinds.) My favorite is the Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream.

3. Lush, baby

  • If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I die for Lush products. I hopped onto the Lush train later in life, mainly because the local drug store was more convenient, and I was choosing convenience over quality. However, I am forever hooked because, not only are their products all handmade and really unique, they smell incredible. I can smell my body wash on my skin throughout the entire day. Dear Lush, please come to Chattanooga so I don't have to order online or play in your store when I'm visiting Nashville. Checkout the images of their products that I'm into right now!

So these are a few of my favorite skincare products and some of the benefits to taking care of my skin at a young age. What are your favorite skincare products and why?
