Oh, you didn't know Ryan Gosling was my boyfriend? Well, he IS okay?! *sighhhh*

The inspiration for this blog post came from two different people. One being the Style Girlfriend who is one of my favorite blogger's for men's fashion. I found her blog a couple years ago when I was working in NYC and immediately thought her concept was brilliant. Megan Collins writes all sorts of articles for men from a female's perspective.

The second item that prompted me to write this article was the fact that my boyfriend's birthday (not Ryan Gosling's) is about a month away; therefore, I need to start budgeting. (lol or at least think about budgeting). You may be fortunate enough like myself to have a man in your life that actually has a great sense of style. However, your boyfriend (or bff who you secretly know will one day become your bf) may not have the best insight on how to dress. If that's the case, I encourage you to keep reading.

As your man's main "bae," it's your job to help him look good. We've all dated the type who we were slightly embarrassed to bring around the parents simply because he refused to wear anything other than a t-shirt. So, whether your man has style or considers Carhartt overalls stylish, here are some essentials to ensure that he won't embarrass you in public!

1. Slim-fit jeans

Not to be confused with skinny jeans, ladies. While some guys can definitely rock the skinnies, a slim fit looks great if your man isn't into the hipster look. Slim-fit jeans fall in between skinnies and straight fit. Remember, we are shopping for our boyfriends; buy dad the straight-fit jeans! Banana Republic's jeans seem to fit most men nicely (I worked there for 5 years so I can vouch).

2. Tailored-fit dress shirts

It's okay to giggle at this pic, but there are no male models in tailored-fit shirts online I swear! Anyway, when shopping for dress shirts for your man, I always go with a slim or tailored fit because they fit best in the chest. I typically avoid classic fit because it's like us women wearing boxy shirts…not the most flattering.

3. Shoes

I've seen a lot of guys wearing this Oxford style, suede shoe, and I must say that I love them. They typically come in many colors, although the navy and grey are my favorites. They are great because they can be dressed up or dressed down…versatile and trendy!

A few other classics you can't go wrong with include: tailored (or slim-fit) chinos, skinny ties (solid or stripes are my fave), and nice quality v-necks that don't classify as undershirts.

A few items to avoid: cargo shorts!!!!, those short-sleeved, plaid button-ups that belong in the "Dad" category, and graphic t-shirts (you'd be surprised)

What's your favorite male trend right now?
