This past Saturday, I did something I rarely ever do. I got a “massage.” I put quotes around the term because it was much more than that. Let me tell you why.
The last massage I had was six years ago. There’s no real reason why I haven’t been back to the masseuse in a while except for the fact that I’d rather spend my money on other things. I always thought, yes, a massage feels good, but that 60-minute relaxation is only temporary. Well, everyone, my mind has been blown by The Woodhouse Day Spa.
Similar to 99.8 percent of the rest of office employees, my shoulders and back were in pain from naturally tensing up and sitting for long periods of time. Once I got through with a long [awesome] work project, I decided I’d treat myself, and you should too.
I found a day spa® Groupon for a 60-minute massage for $39 and booked it immediately (cue Hallelujah song).
When it was time for my [divine] appointment, I walked in and was greeted by the kindest employees manning the front desk. After I was guided to the women’s changing room, handed my plush robe, shoes, and was shown to my locker (which comes with a built-in cell phone charger), I was asked what type of tea I’d like and notified it would be ready for me in the "relaxation room."
I put on my robe and proceeded into the beautiful, cozy lounge. There was a chaise lounge that literally had my name on it, not to mention a soothing cup of tea. I’ve never enjoyed filling out paperwork so much in my life.
Jeff, my masseuse with 22 years of experience, greeted and prepped me on my massage beforehand. Let me tell you, it was amazing! His experience really showed itself. I almost fell asleep twice because of how relaxed I felt. Afterward, I even had to go sit back down in the relaxation room because I felt so relaxed that I couldn’t hold my own thoughts.
It was much more than a massage-it was the first time I could actually be in the moment and enjoy myself without my mind wandering. It was a realization that it’s okay to treat myself because it’s actually mentally and physically healthy for my body.
I know I’ll be back to The Woodhouse Day Spa, and I’m here to tell you from one [former] skeptic to another, book your appointment and “treat yo self.”
