It's the little things...

It's hard not to feel like our daily lives are already busy enough. We can forget that it's important to repair our mental health first and foremost. I believe the best way to do this is by appreciating the little things. Finding joy in the simplest terms soothes the soul. You can find the little things to come in different forms. See my favorite "little things" I enjoy and use to recharge below.

1.) Take a walk outside.

It's always nice to get fresh air especially after you've been sitting in the office all day. My mind always seems clearer. I tend to try and leave my phone at home so I can really take in the moment.

2.) Call/text a friend.

Try not to be one of those "out of sight out of mind" people. Even though you may not live near all of your friends, it's always nice to check-in and see how they're doing.

3.) Bathe in an epsom salt bath.

This is such a tranquil remedy that's great for your body in general. It helps alleviate aches and pains as well as calming any anxiety.

4.) Pray.

Simple as that! Just be conversational with God and voice exactly what you're thinking, what you're going through, frustrations, praises, anything!

5.) Read before bed.

I noticed after I graduated college I really wasn't reading on my own. This was one of the biggest pet peeves about myself. I've been successfully trying to squeeze in at least 20 minutes of reading before bed at night.

6.) Buy yourself a candle.

What a treat! There is nothing I love more than having a candle lit in my bedroom. I light it mostly at night and sometimes while I'm getting ready for work in the morning. Go to TJ Maxx and get a candle for cheap. Right now, I have a sweet pea scented Yankee Candle that I got at TJ's for $8! I love it.

7.) Complement a stranger.

It makes you feel good to see someone be happy by telling a stranger you like their blouse, purse, etc. If you don't feel comfortable to do this, at least smile if you make eye contact with someone. People don't do this enough! It bothers me. Why is this not a regular custom?

What are the little things that make you happier?
